Oxford University Music Society is the musical heart of Oxford. Founded in 1872 and now with over 1000 members, we are one of the oldest and longest-running societies at the University. With 8 diverse ensembles, a Chamber Music Society, opportunities for composers and conductors, and a range of concerts each term, OUMS is the heart of Oxford’s student and community music scene.
2022 marks OUMS’s 150th anniversary. Coinciding with a post-pandemic return to live music-making, the year will be a celebration of all things musical in Oxford. It is also a perfect time to launch our redesigned website, restart our weekly recital series, and create our very own Composer’s Ensemble.
The past year has been a struggle for all of us; many of our ensembles headed online for rehearsals and even concerts. However, the time online allowed us to greatly expand our community outreach, forming invaluable links with local schools, care homes, community centres, and musicians. Going forward, we hope to build on these links, improving access to high-quality music, and truly living up to being the musical heart of Oxford.
