OUWO (the Oxford University Wind Orchestra), one of OUMS’ ensembles, yesterday received a Gold award in the Open Wind Band Class of the Midlands Regional Round of the National Concert Band Festival, beating the University of Warwick’s wind band and the Phoenix Wind Band.
The ensemble, conducted by Francis Shepherd, performed The Year of the Dragon by Philip Sparke, and received very positive comments from the two adjudicators at the festival.
If you’d like to hear OUWO playing The Year of the Dragon live, along with a number of other pieces including 633 Squadron and Dambusters, their termly concert is on Saturday 30th November. More details about the concert and tickets can be found on OUWO’s website, ouwo.oums.org.
