About CCMS

Christ Church Music Society (or CCMS) is one of the most active college music societies in Oxford. It is run entirely by students and provides a performance platform for any Christ Church student who wishes to perform. Christ Church Recital Series takes place regularly throughout term in Christ Church Cathedral. CCMS aims to provide high quality, well organised concerts for all students that want to listen to good music in a live setting. They put on a range of different concerts throughout the year, ranging from the solo recitals to larger ensembles such as the Christ Church College Orchestra.

Christ Church Orchestra

The Christ Church Orchestra was formed in 2002. It is made of Christ Church instrumentalists, augmented by the best instrumentalists from around the university, and aims to perform a quality of high quality orchestral music every term. Recent repertoire has included Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite and Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture.

There are no auditions for the orchestra. Any one who wishes to join should contact the society. Contact information can be found on their website.

Christ Church College Choir

The College Choir (as distinct from the Cathedral Choir) is made up of about twenty five undergraduate and graduate students, and occasionally members of staff. It is run by junior members who plan a programme of services and concerts each year, under the overall responsibility of the College Chaplain. Members are usually from the college, although all enquiries can be sent to the President.

College Choir Rehearsals: Wednesdays 5-7pm, sing evensong every Monday with a rehearsal beforehand at 5pm. All singers are invited to Christ Church formal after the service.
