Eglesfield Musical Society

Eglesfield Musical Society (EMS), part of the Queen’s College, is the oldest college music society in Oxford and plays a big part in College life, being open to everybody in the college and also very willing to incorporate members of other colleges into their ensembles. The EMS organises events throughout the year for people with all types of tastes, starting off with the Freshers’ Concert, plus other events such as the famed Christmas Cracker in Michaelmas term, a Jazz and Cocktails Night in Hilary term and the EMS Musical in Trinity term.
The orchestra runs only in Michaelmas and Hilary Terms, and recent programmes for the Orchestra include Dvorak Symphony No.8 & Vaughan Williams English Folk Song Suite, Extracts from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol and Schubert Symphony No.8. Rehearsals usually take place on Monday evenings, and members from other colleges are welcome. For more information, please email the President.
The choir runs only in Michaelmas and Hilary Terms, and is open to anyone who wants to sing. Their repertoire choices are highly varied varied, ranging from John Taverner, to medleys of the Blackadder and Mr Bean Theme Tunes. Rehearsals usually take place on Monday afternoons.
