OUMS offers a number of active University-wide ensembles. Please see the individual pages below for information on auditions and how to get involved. The main OUMS auditions are in held Michaelmas term each year, but auditions can be arranged in Hilary and Trinity terms.
OUMS ensembles perform regularly in venues ranging from the Sheldonian Theatre to the University Church, and have lively social scenes. A number of ensembles have also undertaken international tours.

Oxford University Orchestra
OUO has provided decades of top-class opportunities to players at the University of Oxford, impressing audiences from the University community, Oxford area and beyond. The orchestra is the flagship ensemble of OUMS and, as such, its instrumentalists are selected from the very best that the University has to offer.http://ouo.oums.org/
Oxford University Philharmonia
The Oxford University Philharmonia was founded in 1992, and ever since it has been both run and conducted entirely by students. In past years, the orchestra has performed a wide range of repertoire, including Brahms’ Symphony No.3, a Varsity performance of Verdi’s Requiem and Barber’s Violin Concerto, to name but a few.http://ouphil.oums.org/
Oxford University Sinfonietta
Oxford University Sinfonietta is a chamber orchestra that has traditionally consisted of the university’s finest instrumentalists. They specialise in performances of little-known and unexplored repertoire, in particular contemporary and early music.http://ousinf.oums.org/
Oxford University String Ensemble
OUSE Website The Oxford University String Ensemble is one of the more recent additions to OUMS. Founded in Michaelmas 2005 by Marc Gascoigne and Matt Bain, this auditioned University-wide ensemble provides a venue for rehearsing and performing challenging string repertoire at a high performance standard.http://ouse.oums.org/
Oxford University Jazz Orchestra
The Oxford University Jazz Orchestra (OUJO) is the university’s premier big band, bringing together twenty of the university’s best jazz musicians into one ensemble to perform modern, demanding, exciting jazz to the highest level of musical excellence.http://oujo.oums.org/
Oxford University Brass Band
Oxford University Brass Band is the only non-auditioning OUMS instrumental ensemble, aiming to provide brass players in Oxford with the more traditional Brass Band style of playing. They have termly concerts at a variety of venues throughout Oxford, with programmes ranging from Brass Band competition pieces, film music, marches and many others.http://oubrass.oums.org/
Oxford University Wind Orchestra
OUWO has been making sweet, wind-powered music since 1974, when it was founded to fulfill the needs of woodwind and brass musicians outside of the traditional symphonic orchestra. It quickly grew in popularity and commissioned works by composers such as Alan Ridout.http://ouwo.oums.org/
Oxford Chamber Orchestra
Oxford Chamber Orchestra was originally created as an undergraduate orchestra for a 1992 production by the Oxford University Opera Club under the musical direction of Duncan Hinnells. It emerged from the pits to tackle a wide range of music from small chamber pieces to large-scale orchestral works.http://www.ouco.net/
Oxford University Chorus
The Oxford University Chorus is the University’s largest non-auditioning choir. Numbering over 100 singers, they are committed to bringing together both experienced and first-time singers from all parts of the University and with any or no musical background, through the performance of larger scale choral works.http://ouc.oums.org/
