OUWO Website

OUWO has been making sweet, wind-powered music since 1974, when it was founded to fulfill the needs of woodwind and brass musicians outside of the traditional symphonic orchestra. It quickly grew in popularity and commissioned works by composers such as Alan Ridout. Since then, OUWO has performed works from Bach to Bernstein, from chamber music to concertos, film music favourites and challenging original pieces by contemporary composers including David Maslanka, Frank Ticheli and Philip Sparke.

The last few years have been particularly busy for OUWO. In addition to the traditional termly concerts, the orchestra has established an annual exchange concert programme with Cambridge University Wind Orchestra, and has successfully competed in the National Concert Band Festival for two years running – performing in national finals in Glasgow and London. But the most exciting recent event their invitation to tour with the Tel Aviv University Wind Band in Israel for ten days in March 2012!
