Arcadian Singers

The Arcadian Singers are Oxford’s premier independent chamber choir, consisting of 20-25 singers and a professional Director of Music. We perform a diverse range of classical music, ranging from Renaissance to contemporary music. We rehearse once a week (Thursday evenings) in a centrally located college and do at least one concert per term. We are a fun and friendly group – pub trips after rehearsals and concert tours included. Get in touch to find out more, or to arrange an audition!

In the Pink

Founded in 2003, In the Pink are one of the longest-running and most successful a cappella groups Oxford has to offer. If you are a woman or non-binary Oxford-based student who loves music and wants to perform as part of a tight-knit group, then we’d love to hear from you! In the Pink have performed at multiple Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, created professional music videos of our original arrangements, and (most recently) released a single on Spotify and Apple Music. We have even more exciting things planned, and would love to have you with us when we do them! We rehearse from 7-9pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. In Trinity 2021 our rehearsals were outside in University Parks to ensure social distancing, but we are currently looking for a permanent indoor rehearsal space for the next year. We can’t wait to meet you!

Oxford Opera Society

The Oxford Opera Society is a non-profit organisation that aims to make opera more accessible to students and residents of Oxford, both through appreciation and participation. On the one hand, we arrange affordable trips to world-class productions, promote any opera productions within Oxford, and put on social events to encourage like-minded people interested in opera to meet and share their interests. On the other hand, we provide opportunities to both experienced and inexperienced performers through talks, masterclasses, and operatic productions.

The Society is run by student and resident volunteers, and its activities in any one year depend on the particular interests of its dedicated committee. However, as a rule, since 2018, we have put on a major production every year, alternating between full operas and concerts of fully-staged scenes, as well as gala concerts. Although there are several operatic groups in Oxford, the Oxford Opera Society covers a niche because of its particular ethos of inclusivity in bringing the performers and the audience together in projects which encourage sharing of knowledge and enthusiasm for this great art form.

College Music Societies

St Peter’s College Music Society

St Peter’s College Music Society (SPCMS) is the college’s forum for musical performance and collaboration, with its principal activity being weekly recitals every Thursday lunchtime (1:15pm) of Full Term, for students to perform in front of a supportive audience of colleagues, staff, and a steady stream of external visitors. We value providing students with performance opportunities and engaging with our global St Peter’s community.

College Choirs

Pembroke College Chapel Choir

Pembroke’s Chapel Choir is a fantastic group of singers who perform evensong once a week on Sunday afternoons with choristers. The choir is non-auditioned except for 8 choral scholarships with 2 scholars per part. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 6-7pm in Pembroke, and the Sunday evensongs are followed by a free formal dinner. Despite the low commitment, the choir also sings services for special events, such as the Christmas service, and occasionally in concert settings.
